Upcoming Porsche 911 GT2 or GT2 RS Prototype Spied

Upcoming Porsche 911 GT2 prototype spotted testing near Germany’s famed Nurburgring

Both yesterday and today, we had spyshots emerge of the upcoming Porsche 911 GT or GT2 RS. The images that emerged gave us a much clearer picture to work with.

The vehicle pictured here is expected to be of either the new GT2 or GT2 RS. If that is the case, it should have a larger larger turbocharger and rear-wheel-drive, instead of the all-wheel-drive of the turbo.

Speaking of the Turbo, since the 911.2 Turbo 2 S puts out 580 horsepower, we can expect the GT machines pictured here to put out anywhere between 600 and 700 horsepower.

Regarding the transmission, there were rumors that Porsche was going to be adding a manual transmission to the upcoming 991.2 GT3. However, we don’t have any information as to whether the manual transmission will be making its way to the GT2 or GT2 RS variant. If it does come with the manual transmission, it may very well be the same one in the Porsche 911 R.

Porsche GT2 or GT2 RS Ground Effects

This mule starts off with a GT3 RS body, which is identifiable as such by the front wing air extractors in addition to the middle section of the luggage compartment opening and roof.

The Porsche GT2 or GT2 RS mule has aerodynamic elements that are borrowed from the 991 and 997 models of the 911 GT3 R race car. It starts at the front where a massive splitter is joined by dual winglets on each side of the front apron. Moving back, there is a large wing but what is most important, is what lies beneath the deck.

You are probably wondering what leads us to conclude that this is a GT2 / GT2 RS mule rather than a GT3 / GT3 RS mule. The side exhaust tips are one clue in that they are close to production spec. On the rear of the car, we have extra air vents in the bumpers. Up front, there are larger air intakes compared to the GT3 / GT3 RS, which point to a turbocharged engine.
