Evo magazine pits the Nissan R35 GT-R vs Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Does the Japanese dragon beat the German icon?
The incredible Nissan R35 GT-R has a reputation for brutal acceleration and awe-inspiring performance. What happens when you pit a Nissan R35 GT-R against a legendary Porsche 911 GT3 RS?
Evo magazine took a Porsche 911 GT3 RS and a 2016 Nissan R35 GT-R to Alconbury’s Cambridgeshire runway to get the answer to the question.
The Nissan R35 GT-R has a 542 horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine, all-wheel-drive and a boatload of software. The company claims a mind-blowing 0-62 mile per hour sprint in just 2.7 seconds.
In contrast, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has a naturally aspirated flat-six engine putting out just 493 horsepower. All of the power is directed to the rear wheels.
Make no mistake about it, while the Nissan R35 GT-R has amazing credentials, let us not underestimate the Porsche as it is likely lighter than the GT-R and the manufacturer has a reputation of putting out some of the best cars in the World. This is not an isolated event but rather a hallmark that defines the company.
Well, how did the race go?
The weight of the rear-mounted engine on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS provides impressive grip from the start. The PDK transmission is one of the best on the market and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is 660 pounds lighter than the Japanese dragon.
