Decision made to bring the Mercedes Benz G550 4×4 2 to the United States
It looks like Mercedes Benz heard us over hear when prospective clients clamored for the rugged Mercedes Benz G550 4×4 2. After thinking about it for a year, they have spoken and will be selling it stateside.
While pricing for the US market has not yet been announced, where it is sold in Europe as the G500 4×4 2, it is priced over $140,000 more than the stock G500, which sells for $119,900 and almost $50,000 less than the G65 AMG, priced at #200,000. Following that logic, the G550 4×4 2 could come in under the $200,000 mark.
Related to the monstrous G63 AMG 6X6 which was never officially sold in the United States, the G550 4×4 2 has two less wheels. Equipped with innovative portal axles that allow axle inputs to have several dramatically different settings, Mercedes claims that the G550 4×4 2 is the most capable G-Class ever built. Additional features include three different locking differentials and a ground clearance of more than 17 inches.
Seeing as how we have an abundance of paved roads and highways in the United States, it is questionable whether the majority of cars sold in the United States will ever be taken off-road. I would estimate that most of the cars sold in the United States will primarily see parking lot and curb duty at best.
The heart driving the Mercedes Benz G550 4×4 2 is a the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 putting out 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Power is converted to forward motion through the 7G-TRONIC PLUS seven speed automatic transmission.
Addtiional features includes a widened track, side-underbody exhaust pipes, and wheel arches on all four corners. The G550 4×4 2 is kept grounded with 22-inch wheels.
For those with the desire and resources for such a car, it is indeed good news that the Mercedes Benz G550 4X4 2 is coming to the United States.sd
