Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Spotted Finishing Up Testing

GLC 63 wearing little camouflage indicates release date is coming

Since Mercedes Benz bought AMG, they have disclosed that they are making an AMG version of just about every car in their line up. With that said, here is their latest, an SUV in fact, a new SUV called the GLC 63. Naturally, it is based on the Mercedes Benz GLC.

The lack of camouflage in the test mule pictured indicates that AMG is quickly approaching launch day with only the front bumper covered in camouflage.

The GLC shares a platform with the C-Class. As a result, we should expect that the same drivetrain underlying the GLC 63 would the one underlying the C63. In that case, it should be the twin-turbo V8 engine borrowed from the AMG GT. If that is the case, it will be good for 476 horsepower for the base model and 510 horsepower for the ā€˜S’ model.

AMG rolled out a new engine that is a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine that is often joined with the 4Matic system. The new AMG drivetrain will be available on the C-Class and E-Class later this year.

There is no word yet on whether or not the GLC will be available with the 3.0-liter V6 drivetrain. If we do see a GLC 43, I think we can expect a smaller set of wheels, brakes, and perhaps the non-bulging fenders and quarter panels.

The GLC 63 is expected to be available in dealers before the end of the year. As a result, it may be unveiled on the Paris Motor Show starting on September 29, 2016.

The video below shows a prototype GLC 63 captured at the Nurburgring recently.
