Experience the Legendary Porsche 718 on the Targa Florio

5-time LeMans winner Derek Bell drives the exact car that won the 1955 Targa Florio

When one thinks of legendary race cars, they often think of Ferraris and Porsches. Both marques were in their heyday in the late 1950s and 60s.

In this video, five-time racing legend Derek Bell takes control of a drop-dead gorgeous 1960 Porsche 718 and narrates the story of the amazing Targa Florio winner.

What makes the video special is that Mr. Bell is driving not just any 718 but rather number 718-041 that was actually driven in and won that very race.   Originally driven by Hans Herrman and Jo Bonnier, the famed car and drivers won the 1955 Targa Florio.  Petrolicious joined the fabled race car and legendary driver to document the legendary race for their latest film.

Powered by an air-cooled naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four cylinder engine, the 718 put out 170 horsepower in a featherweight package. In an event with 800 corners that is the Targa Florio, that is the stuff of dreams and legends.

Hats off to you Mr. Bell, Porsche and Petrolicious for making a movie that in my mind, captures gloriously captures the essence of the legendary race.
