ABT Audi S8 Plus, 696 horsepower and blistering performance
The Audi RS line of vehicles are legendary for their speed and performance. Unfortunately, Audi does not make RS versions for the their entire lineup. One such vehicle is the Audi S8.
Already a force to be reckoned with, the Audi S8 is very fast with an engine putting out 520 horsepower. This is sufficient to propel the S8 from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds.
For those who need more, Audi makes what they call the Audi S8 Plus putting out 605 horsepower. Apparently there is more to be extracted from the 4.0-liter V8 TFSI engine.
German tuner ABT has taken the Audi S8 Plus and managed to massage an additional 91 horsepower from the engine to create a whopping 696 horsepower and 619 pound-feet of torque. This is sufficient to propel the massaged Audi from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a claimed 3.5 seconds. I am confident that the real number is considerably lower than this.
Motor Trend tested the regular 520 horsepower S8 and clocked a 0 to 60 time of 3.5 seconds with power going through the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. With almost 200 more horsepower that the standard S8, I believe that ABT’s version of the S8 Plus would be closer to the low 2.0 second range.
ABT’s magic for the Audi S8 Plus does not end with engine performance modifications. The Tuner has added a new custom four-pipe muffler system and lowered the car by 25 millimeters. Buyers also have a choice of either 20-, 21-, or 22-inch wheels for their German land missiles.
If Audi ever made the RS8, I am sure that the ABT Audi S8 Plus is what it would look like. It has the brutal performance and speed that the RS line is known for.
