700hp German Supercar at Play in the Rain

Sideways action from a manual 700hp Audi R8

Could two separate automotive-related events be coming together to create the perfect storm?

Drifting started in the foothills of Japan as a way for kids to show their driving skills. Over time it has evolved to become a global phenomenon that is just now earning the respect of the motor sports community.

Some of the most awesome supercars of the last decade such as the Lamborghini Diablo, Lamborghini Gallardo, and Audi R8 have depreciated to the point to where they have become ‘relatively’ affordable.

These two separate events have come together to create what you see here, an Audi R8 twin-turbo made just for drifting. However, this is not the only vehicle. There is a Lexus LFA and Lamborghini Murcielago, both set up for drifting making the rounds in Japan.

The Audi R8 you see here has a twin-turbo kit from HST Turbo-tuning that puts out 700 horsepower. While there are a few twin-turbo R8s and Gallardos on the streets and runways of the United States, this is an entirely new thing in Austria.

It is apparent from the video below that the owner is enjoying his car in a unique way. When asked what the future holds, the owner said he would like to take the R8 to 1,000 horsepower. In the meantime, we invite you to enjoy the German supercar in its element.
