No question the car is unique, but is it worth $160,000?
The Toyota Camry is primarily known for the value that it represents rather than as a popular platform for car customizers. However, every now and then a Camry pops up that is worthy of a second look.
The Toyota Camry you see here was made as tribute vehicle to Toyota’s efforts within NASCAR. Created by North Carolina’s RK Motors to show at SEMA a few years back, it is a full-fledged custom coupe rather than sedan.
While no ordinary Camry, it is currently being offered on EBAY for a ‘Buy It Now’ price of $160,000. Yes, you read that right, $160,000 or the price of 5 ‘top-of-the-line’ 2016 Toyota Camrys.
In fairness, in addition to being a Camry coupe, it is powered by a 5.9-liter V8 engine producing 680 horsepower and directed entirely to the rear wheels. Power is converted to forward motion through a six-speed manual transmission.
While there is tremendous power underfoot, the car is still capable of transporting four people in relative comfort. The cabin is covered in leather and there are power controls for the seats. There is also air conditioning for hot days.
The car is in remarkable condition with only 17 miles on the odometer. This is clearly still a new car with several things that make it very special. It is basically a street-legal NASCAR racer with a side exhaust set up and four-point roll cage.
While I won’t argue that it is not a unique car, I have to question if it is worth $160,000. For that money, I can get a really nice Porsche, AMG or BMW. Apparently, I am not the only one to question the value as the car was for sale back in 2013 and then, it did not sell.
Will history repeat itself? For that, we will have to wait and see.
