Bentley Mulsanne Convertible May Be Coming

The Bentley Drop Top would be very pricey though

Bentley is reportedly planning to put its Bentley Mulsanne convertible into production, albeit in very limited numbers. The luxury company’s boss, Wolfgang Durheimer tells Car and Driver that the model could be ready in just two years. Expected to be built in very limited numbers, the resulting price is expected to be very high, possibly as high as 1 million pounds. This is $1.47 million at current exchange rates.

When pressed, Durheimer told the magazine “such a model would be built in 20 units and sold to absolute connoisseurs at a very high price.”

Bentley first showed concepts of the ultra-luxury soft top before, but none of them made it into production. In 2012, the company first showed a concept to wealthy enthusiasts at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. In 2014 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, the company showed the Grand Convertible concept. Responses received showed that the convertible Mulsanne may still be viable.

Development was stopped at one point because it was determined that the Mulsanne droptop was only going to be popular in very limited markets. Shortly thereafter, rumors emerged that the convertible might appear yet again, this time with the Azure nameplate when it hits the road. Regardless, I still believe that there is room for the ultra-luxurious droptop.
