Lexus announces subtle enhancements to the 2017 Lexus IS sedan
China has become one of the most significant markets for automobile manufacturers around the World. Many car companies are building extended vehicles specifically for the Chinese marketplace.
It should come as no surprise that an increasing number of manufacturers are using the Beijing Auto Show to debut new makes and models of their latest offerings. Lexus is one such manufacturer doing just that.
Lexus is showing a mid-cycle revision for its very popular Lexus IS for the 2017 model year at this week’s Beijing Auto Show.
The third generation Lexus IS which incorporates the spindle grille design and a very impressive build quality, incorporate several enhancements throughout the vehicle that when taken together make a good car even better.
At the front of the 2017 Lexus IS, there are new redesigned headlamps, larger air intakes within the bumper in addition to an evolution of the Lexus spindle grille. The side profile now boasts an updated character line that runs down the side of the vehicle, emphasizing the sportiness of the IS sedan.
Towards the rear of the vehicle, changes focus on a more pronounced LED tail lamp and rectangular chrome exhaust tips. Two new colors are added to the Lexus IS color pallet, Deep Blue Mica and Graphite Black Glass flake that add to the range of available exterior color options.
Moving to the inside of the vehicle, mid-cycle enhancements consist of an increase in size of the multimedia display screen from 7 inches to 10.3 inches, “Enter” buttons on the side of the Remote Touch Interface, and changes to the buttons controlling the HVAC and audio systems. Additional interior enhancements consists of redesigned cup holders, new markings on the in-dash analogue clock, and a larger leather-wrapped palm rest stitching extending to the Remote Touch Interface.
Things remain the same under the hood where the Lexus IS lineup starts with the rear-wheel-drive 200t (a 2.0-liter in-line four turbo with an automatic 8-speed transmission. The mid-range Lexus IS power plant consists of the IS 300 with all-wheel-drive followed by a range topping 3.5-liter, naturally aspirated V6 engine and 8-speed transmission available in either rear wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Lexus will soon be added adding an IS 300h hybrid to the lineup combining a 2.5 liter inline four cylinder engine with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission. The 2017 Lexus IS to land in the United States in the third quarter of 2016 with pricing forthcoming this summer.
